A CONSERVATIVE candidate in the upcoming local elections has slammed Labour for taking credit for work done by campaigning residents. Edward McCarthy, who is standing in the Knowsley Ward, said he is delighted to hear that £66,000 has been promised for speed-reducing measures, but added it was not down just to the local Labour group.

Edward McCarthy Conservative Candidate for Knowsley Ward is calling for urgent investment in some of Ormskirk’s roads.Edward says: “According to an email from Lancashire County Council’s Transport Councillor Cllr Fillis two of the worst roads in the ward are only being CONSIDERED for resurfacing in 2017-18. Both roads have repeatedly had potholes filled in again and again. They require a full resurfacing NOW. Many residents have contacted myself and LCC about the roads. Many have contacted me about damage to their vehicles. I would urge the council to bring forward these resurfacing schemes. I would like to see figures relating to the costs of resurfacing, the costs of repeatedly filling in each pothole and how much compensation has been paid out already relating to both roads.”
Edward McCarthy Conservative Candidate for Knowsley Ward having contacted various bodies about litter along Dyers Lane brook, tackled the issue himself.

Local Conservative Candidates Thomas Burton (Derby Ward) and Edward McCarthy (Knowsley Ward) are calling for the installation of bins and a regular cleaning schedule for the path between Ormskirk’s Train Station and Bus Station to combat the growing issue of litter.Thomas Burton said, “We recently conducted a litter pick along the path that leads from Ormskirk Bus Station to the Train Station collecting a large amount of rubbish. Although the litter pick serves as a short term solution to the growing problem it highlights the lack of bins provided which leads to people littering. It is important that this area is kept free of litter as this can often be people’s first impressions of Ormskirk when they get off the train or bus.”
Edward McCarthy Conservative Candidate for Knowsley ward, following concerns from residents , has looked at damage to the metal fencing on the Halsall Lane park. Edward said: "The metal fencing is damaged at the back of the park, there are sharp edges and pieces missing. I have asked West Lancs Borough Council to look at this issue and carry out the necessary work. West Lancs Borough Council has over 40 play areas across the borough which are open all year round and provide a wide range of fun play experiences."
