Local Conservative Candidates Thomas Burton (Derby Ward) and Edward McCarthy (Knowsley Ward) are calling for the installation of bins and a regular cleaning schedule for the path between Ormskirk’s Train Station and Bus Station to combat the growing issue of litter.Thomas Burton said, “We recently conducted a litter pick along the path that leads from Ormskirk Bus Station to the Train Station collecting a large amount of rubbish. Although the litter pick serves as a short term solution to the growing problem it highlights the lack of bins provided which leads to people littering. It is important that this area is kept free of litter as this can often be people’s first impressions of Ormskirk when they get off the train or bus.”

West Lancs Borough Council has over 40 play areas across the borough which are open all year round and provide a wide range of fun play experiences."

Edward McCarthy the Conservative Candidate for Knowsley ward has been contacted by many residents concerned about cars repeatedly parking on pavements.Currently, according to the police, Local Authorities (in England) can make an order prohibiting parking on the pavement. If this were to be done, then there would be signs which clearly point out on a particular road where parking on the pavement would be specifically prohibited. The penalty for contravening this would be a fixed penalty notice. At the moment, the act of driving a vehicle on and off the pavement without good reason is an offence, but parking there is not. Parking a vehicle on the pavement could lead to an offence of obstruction, and could result in a fixed penalty notice being issued to offending vehicles, but in practice is seldom pursued. Obstruction is not just a roadway offence; causing danger/nuisance for pedestrians and wheelchairs users can also give rise to the offence.
Dear Resident,Today I delivered a Budget that puts the next generation first and redoubles our efforts to make Britain fit for the future by: Cutting taxes so working people can keep more of the money they earn From April next year the tax free personal allowance will rise to £11,500, a tax cut for 31 million people that means a typical basic rate taxpayer will be paying over £1,000 less income tax then when we came into government. The higher rate threshold will also increase to £45,000, a tax cut of over £400.
