A CONSERVATIVE candidate in the upcoming local elections has slammed Labour for taking credit for work done by campaigning residents.
Edward McCarthy, who is standing in the Knowsley Ward, said he is delighted to hear that £66,000 has been promised for speed-reducing measures, but added it was not down just to the local Labour group.
He said: “It is great to hear about the £66,000 for Cottage Lane and also for Halsall Lane for speed measures. However, the former Cottage Lane Residents group along with others have campaigned about speeding for many years and helped to secure vital funding for these measures, not just Labour. Speeding on the road has been an ongoing issue for years and in fact it was the Conservatives who introduced 20mph zones. Residents should be applauded for their fight to get this work done."
He added: "However what is also needed is the full resurfacing of Cottage Lane. It is only being considered for 2017/8. This needs bringing forward urgently. Too many residents have had to have new tyres and make claims. It is not cost effective to keep filling in the same potholes over and over. It would make economic sense to carry out at all the work at the same time.”
