Musicians and other performers can show off their talents at the first ever Parbold Art and Music Street Festival on Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September.The fabulous two-day festival will be packed with free entertainment, a wide variety of stalls, and opportunities to be creative and join in a fun procession. There will also be live music, food and drink and Saturday evening a Festival of Lights provided by barges on the canal.
West Lancashire Borough Council is giving a boost to the local economy by creating new industrial units designed to meet the needs of modern businesses.The 11 new units will replace those which used to stand at 18-24 Gorsey Place on the Gillibrands industrial estate. These were demolished in 2013 as they were no longer fit for purpose.The Council receives a lot of enquiries from businesses looking for smaller factory units suitable for light industry and storage businesses. The authority hopes this new development, called Greenshoots and located at Gorsey Place, Skelmersdale, will help meet that demand and create new jobs in West Lancashire.

We will introduce a new National Living Wage for all working people aged 25 and over. It will start next April at £7.20 an hour and we expect it to reach over £9 by 2020.It will mean two and a half million people get a direct pay rise. Those currently on the minimum wage will see their pay rise by over a third this Parliament, a cash increase for a full time worker of over £5,000.We’re also increasing the Employment Allowance by 50 per cent so a firm will be able to employ 4 people full time on the new National Living Wage and pay no national insurance at all.
