Motor racing fans should get themselves into pole position to see some spectacular vehicles on display at the Ormskirk MotorFest on Sunday 30 August.
A 1978 Williams Formula 1 motor racing car will be on display, and has been a very popular attraction at previous MotorFest displays.
The car is owned by motoring enthusiast Andrew Wareing. He also owns a classic BRM Formula 1 car, which was raced by Graham Hill at Aintree in its last Formula 1 race in 1964, and a 1964 BT11 Brabham which was built for the Tasman Series in Australia and New Zealand.
The Williams will be brought to MotorFest on Andrew’s behalf by Phil Perks, a fellow motor racing, hill climb and sprint racer.
Andrew said: “I have been a lifelong racing enthusiast and I am lucky enough that my wife Margaret likes collecting racing cars so this is a real family passion.
“We enjoy having the cars at events because we feel the public should be able to see them. We are happy to come to MotorFest because it is a really good local event.”
Other racing vehicles coming to MotorFest include a number of stock cars which are always a big hit at the MotorFest. Fabulous examples of this type of racing car lining up on the day will include Aaron Cozens’s ex-Steve Cayzer 380 F1 vehicle. Aaron’s grandfather Alf and great-uncle Wilf both raced stock cars back in the 1950s and 1960s. Aaron races under his grandfather’s number 76 and has had a good start to the 2015 season, winning the opening heat of the White and Yellow final at King’s Lynn.
Wilf Blundell and Alf Cozens were both from Southport and Wilf was founder of Blundell Coaches of Southport as well as being a founder member of Aintree Circuit Club.
The oldest-known original F2 stock car in Britain will also be on display at MotorFest. Owned by George Rimmer, this vehicle was created in 1965 but its body is from a 1937 Fiat Topolino.
The Ormskirk MotorFest is a free event organised by Aintree Circuit Club, supported by West Lancashire Borough Council.
Mike Ashcroft, Aintree Circuit Club chairman, said: “Having Andrew’s superb racing cars and a great line up of stock cars on display is fantastic for motor racing fans coming to the MotorFest.” Over 350 wonderful cars and motorcycles from all eras of motoring will be on display in Ormskirk town centre and Coronation Park at the marvellous MotorFest. Many of the vehicles will also take part in parade laps.
