Sir Robert Atkins, MEP for the North West, was the guest of honour at West Lancashire Conservative Association's recent Disraeli Club meeting.
A former Minister in both the Thatcher and Major Governments, Sir Robert told guests at the event, held at Briars Hall, Lathom, on Friday night about his important work as a European Member of Parliament. It was followed by a lively Question & Answer session.
Mrs Jenni Mayer, Chairman of West Lancashire Conservative Association, said: "We were delighted to welcome Sir Robert and his wife, Lady Atkins, to the Disraeli Club. We had an excelllent turnout from supporters who were interested to hear about Sir Robert's work in the European Parliament."
The Disraeli Club meets monthly throughout autumn and winter and is a chance for Conservative members and non-members to meet and discuss a number of issues.
The next event will be held on February 17 where Borough Council leader Cllr Ian Grant and County Cllr David O'Toole will give an update on the challenges faced by both authorities as they seek to make reductions to pay off the previous Labour Government's legacy of debt.
And on March 17, club guests will have the opportunity to meet the Conservative candidates who will be flying the flag for the party at May's local Borough Council elections.
Graham Jones, Deputy Chairman Political, said: "The Disraeli Club is a great way of meeting like-minded people and debating a broad range of issues. I would like to thank Sir Robert and Lady Atkins for finding time in their busy schedules to come along to the event. It was an excellent evening and thoroughly enjoyed by all."
All Disraeli events cost £10 and are open to both party members and non-members. There is a choice of beef, salmon or chicken and you get a free glass of wine.
