A call has gone out this week for volunteers to help with bulb planting of an area on a main thoroughfare into Ormskirk which is already being improved by the community.
In April, councillors, local residents and Edge Hill Students’ Union were involved in a project planting shrubs to improve an open space on Wigan Road in Ormskirk. Now they are planning an autumn tidy up of the area close to School House Green and also plan to plant hundreds of bulbs.
Councillor Adrian Owens said, “The area is already looking better with the shrubs we planted, but the area could do with an end of season tidy up and the bulbs we plant will give the area a real splash of colour next spring. So please, if you can spare an hour come down on Friday 4th October between 1.30pm and 4pm and lend a hand. If the weather is bad, we have Saturday morning, 5th October in reserve.”
Jess Martin from Edge Hill Students’ Union said, “Students from Edge Hill were involved in the shrub planting in April. Students are involved in hundreds of hours of volunteer activity every year and it’s great to have a project like this at the start of the academic year to get new students involved.”
Councillor Owens concluded by asking anyone who was interested in volunteering for the project to contact him on 01257 464813 or by email at [email protected]
