Ormskirk's third Motorfest brought power to the people yesterday as thousands of visitors crowded into the town to celebrate everything that's great about cars and bikes.
Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning and Development, said: “The Ormskirk MotorFest was a fantastic success once again. The number people who enjoyed this wonderful free celebration of motoring was well up on last year, which proves the MotorFest continues to be increasingly popular.
“Having the final vintage fair of the summer in Ormskirk at the same time helped to make it a wonderful day out for all the family. With so many people in town I am sure the event will have been a great boost for local businesses."
This was the third Ormskirk MotorFest, which was organised by Aintree Circuit Club and supported by West Lancashire Borough Council.
Other impressive cars on display included a ‘squadron’ of 1950s bubbles cars, competition vehicles and a fantastic display of vintage cars and motorcycles.
Mike Ashcroft, Aintree Circuit Club chairman, said: “I am so pleased we were able to bring such a marvellous event to the streets of Ormskirk once again. There were some fantastic vehicles on display which visitors really enjoyed looking around.
“Everyone involved in the MotorFest said they were really pleased with the event. We are very grateful to West Lancashire Borough Council and the police for their support and to our sponsors. We are also grateful to all the drivers and riders who came from far and wide to the event to display their cars and motorcycles.”
Aintree Circuit Club is looking to use an area of Coronation Park for vehicle enthusiast clubs to do themed static club displays as another new attraction for this year.
Many took part in the parade laps and others were proudly on display in Coronation Park, the good weather bringing out an estimated 30,000 visitors during the day.The day was excellent. Weather was good, visitors also enjoyed the children's fair; Skelmersdale Prize band were playing in Coronation Park and the vintage market has also been on. Bars and cafes have been doing a roaring trade in Ormskirk Town centre.
