Two of West Lancs parks have kept their places among the best in the country.
Beacon Country Park in Up Holland and Coronation Park in Ormskirk have retained their Green Flag Awards, which shows visitors the parks are well-maintained by the Conservative controlled West Lancashire Borough Council and have excellent facilities.
This is the seventh successive year Beacon Country Park has retained this prestigious status, and the sixth year for Coronation Park.
The Green Flag award scheme, co-ordinated by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country.
Council staff work hard all year round to ensure the parks are maintained to a high standards and are places that the public will enjoy visiting.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, said: “This is great news that Beacon Country Park and Coronation Park have retained their Green Flag status again this year.
“Receiving such recognition from national experts is a real tribute to the hard work of the Council staff who do a tremendous job of making our parks such wonderful places to visit.
“The staff won’t be resting on their laurels and will continue their efforts in providing a great service. They will be working hard to maintain the high standards necessary to keep these awards and make our parks places that West Lancashire people to be proud of.”
*Keep Britain Tidy run the Green Flag Award scheme in the UK on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.
It is run in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, Tidy Northern Ireland, Keep Scotland Beautiful, the National Housing Federation and the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.
Any green space that is accessible to the public is eligible to enter for a Green Flag Award. Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag status.
