The Ormskirk MotorFest returns to the streets on Sunday 25 August and you can play an important role in making sure it is a success.
About 10,000 people are expected to enjoy the free motoring extravaganza, which will feature between 250 and 300 superb vehicles on display. These include 1950s bubble cars, rally, racing and stock car competition vehicles, and classic, vintage and competition motorcycles.
Organisers are looking for volunteer marshals to help with activities. Some can assist in the morning while others may want to help in the afternoon, or they can do both.
Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning and Development, said: “Last year’s Ormskirk MotorFest was a fantastic success. This year’s event will be even bigger and better. By volunteering to be a marshal you will be helping to make sure this wonderful event is enjoyed by everyone.”
Marshals will be needed in the morning to help ensure vehicles safely arrive at their allocated display positions. The marshals will need to be there at 7.15am for this task.
Once all the vehicles are in place, which will be by 10am, there is a break period before the parades in the afternoon. Marshals will then be on duty to assist vehicles to get out onto the parade route and to be positioned at locations around the course to ensure the cavalcade goes smoothly.
For the parades marshals will need to report to the marshal’s centre by 12.30pm as they will need to register first and attend a marshals’ briefing before going out on post for 2pm.All the volunteer marshals all receive a refreshment voucher. If you want to volunteer to be a marshal please apply as soon as possible through the Ormskirk MotorFest website (external link).Teenagers under 18 can apply but will need a responsible adult with them on the day.
The Ormskirk MotorFest is a free event organised by Aintree Circuit Club, supported by Conservative controlled West Lancashire Borough Council.
The static displays will be on Moor Street, Aughton Street and Coronation Park. The Santa Pod Raceway Top Fuel Dragster proved a huge hit with visitors last year and will once again be stood on Coronation Park. Other vehicles that are sure to attract a crowd include rally and stock car competition vehicles.
Mike Ashcroft, Aintree Circuit Club Chairman, said: “The Ormskirk MotorFest will be a fantastic day out for all the family over the bank holiday weekend. So make sure you come along and enjoy the great displays.”
Following the successful running of the Ormskirk Autosolo at Park Pool, MotorFest will now feature The Ormskirk MotorFest Autosolo Challenge, to entertain visitors prior to the main parades. This will add a competitive element to MotorFest where specially invited experienced race and rally drivers will put their driving and car control skills to the test, timed to a hundredth of a second, over a short and low speed course similar to that used for the inaugural event.
There is still time to enter your car into the Ormskirk MotorFest and organisers are particularly looking for competition cars. For an entry form please go to the Ormskirk MotorFest website (external link).
