Plans to improve the area around the war memorial in Sandy Lane, Old Skelmersdale, have been welcomed. £24,000 will be spent on improving the area in front of Skelmersdale War Memorial.
Edward McCarthy, Conservative Candidate for Skelmersdale West in this year’s Lancashire County Council elections, has praised the plans submitted to the Borough Council.
Improvements will be made on land opposite the war memorial as well as new shrub planting behind the actual memorial. On the grassland opposite, there will be proposed new bulb planting, a proposed new pathway and a paved area with a proposed mosaic or paving feature with a war memorial theme.
Commenting on the plans, Edward said: "I welcome the plans to improve the area around the war memorial. The proposals will turn part of what is currently and very much underused field back into a focal point for the area around the war memorial, and that is to be welcomed.”
There will also be £50,000 for works aimed at preventing flooding on roads and underpasses in Skelmersdale over the next three years by the borough council.
Edward also praised recent investment on highways in Skelmersdale West by Lancashire County Council –
“In recent years there has been an investment in road safety with the introduction of the 20mph zones, and the investment in Skelmersdale’s footbridges as well as road improvements in Sandy Lane , Delamere Road and Westgate.”
