Funding for eight voluntary organisations in West Lancashire is set to be protected, thanks to local Conservatives. The Conservative Borough Council currently provides revenue support to Age UK Lancashire, West Lancs CVS, West Lancs Dial-A-Ride, Relate Lancashire & Cumbria, South & WL Foodbank, West Lancs Disability Helpline, Victim Support Lancashire and Lancashire West Citizens’ Advice Bureau. The amount of funding currently tops £85,000 a year, and Conservative councillors have announced that unlike other areas of the country, there will be no proposed cuts to their revenue funding. Cllr David Westley, West Lancs Conservative spokesman for finance, said: "Times are tough for councils due to the legacy of debt and waste left by the Labour Government. "However, due to sound financial management by this Conservative administration, we are able to protect revenue funding for voluntary organisations. This is in stark contrast to other parts of the North West where Labour are slashing grants to voluntary organisations. “The funding will enable organisations to continue offering support and services to West Lancashire residents. In the case of Lancashire West Citizens’ Advice Bureau, this has facilitated the provision of an office at The Concourse in Skelmersdale, as well as a telephone service offering advice on debt and benefits advice.” The funding is expected to be formally allocated at a meeting of the Borough Council cabinet later this month.
