West Lancashire residents in six locations across the borough are being encouraged to get involved in community action days right on their doorstep.
The Community Action Days in Tanhouse, Birch Green, Scott Estate Ormskirk, Little Digmoor, Moorside and Digmoor are being organised by West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership working with the Borough Council, Police, Fire Service and other agencies.
Staff from the Borough Council, Police and Fire and Rescue Service will be on the estates offering advice and support on community safety on the dates below. Skips are available for members of the public to dispose of waste they are unable to take to local recycling centres. These will also be available from 9am until they are full in the locations listed below:
• Tuesday 7 August, Little Digmoor, service road, top end
• Wednesday 8 August, Digmoor, near 232-236, Blakehall
• Thursday 9 August, August Moorside, Birleywood, near to Digmoor Parade
• Tuesday 14 August, Tanhouse, Elmstead, second turning on the right near garages
• Wednesday 15 August, Scott Estate, outside of shop on Scott Drive
• Thursday 16 August, Birch Green, Fairlie, second turning on the left first car park
The community action days aim to improve working relationships, increase community confidence and reduce the fear of crime. Previous action days in West Lancashire have been a great success, proving that community spirit is alive and well in the borough.
Police officers will be on the estates to promote ‘In the Know’ and give advice on crime prevention and other community safety issues, including serious and organised crime. A number of other service providers including Young Addaction, the Lancashire Wellbeing Service and the Liberty Centre will be raising awareness of their services and the support they can offer people. This will include substance misuse issues, general advice and support on a range of wellbeing issues and support with domestic abuse. In addition, Lancashire Probation’s Community Payback Team will be supporting the events.
The Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team and Estates Management Team will also be around to encourage the use of the skips and deal with issues of fly tipping and dog fouling. The Council’s Customer Engagement team will also be providing advice and support on digital skills training, including being safe online, and how to access the Council's online services.
Also in attendance on each of the days will be the Council's More Positive Together team. This team will be providing advice and offering support to those residents wishing to improve their health and wellbeing and prospects of employment. The More Positive Together scheme is a Lancashire-wide initiative funded by the European Social Fund.
Heidi McDougall, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership, said: “The community action days are great events for the local communities and I’d like to thank all the organisations, ward councillors and individual residents who play a part to make them successful.”
