Community groups across West Lancashire have been handed a £7,000-plus cash boost from Conservative-run Borough Council.
A number of organisations stretching the length and breadth of the Borough have successfully secured funding from the council's Community Chest fund.
Among the groups which are set to benefit include:
- Scarisbrick National Services Club
- Liverpool Road Allotment Society, Skelmersdale
- Polaris Football Club, Skelmersdale
- Resound Community Choir, Scarisbrick
- The Ark West Lancs
- Welbourne and Peacehaven Residents' Association, Skelmersdale
- Dalton Morris Dancers
- Ormskirk Ukele Club
- Octagon Wrestling Club, Skelmersdale
- Bath Springs Court residents association, Ormskirk
- Hesketh Bank Silver Bank
Cllr David Sudworth, Conservative Group spokesman who approved grants for the above organisations, said: "I am delighted community groups across the borough have been successful in applying for funding.
"This cash boost will help a number of the groups' plans, such as new kit and equipment for Polaris FC in Skelmersdale, and the set up costs for The Ark West Lancs, which provides help and advice for ex-offenders, homeless people and alcoholics.
"I am especially pleased we have been able to assist a number of newer groups, such as Welbourne and Peacehaven Residents Association, which have only been going since March, as well as those who are well established.
"Labour have committed to axing the Community Chest if they won control of the Council. As Conservatives, we are committed to helping community organisations and recognise the valuable role they play in the social life of West Lancashire."
