Labour councillors should hang their heads in shame for voting against plans to make West Lancashire's streets cleaner.
The Labour Group voted to reject Conservative plans to boost frontline litter and dog fouling enforcement. This will be done by amalgamating the teams so that, unlike now, team members will be responsible for enforcing litter and dog fouling. This means there will be more frontline patrols for both.
Cllr David Sudworth, Conservative Group spokesman for health and community safety, said: "Labour should hang their heads in shame for voting against this Conservative proposal which will help make West Lancashire's streets cleaner and bring to justice those whose anti social behaviour blight our communities.
"At first, Labour councillors appeared not to understand what was being proposed, but even when it was explained to them, and the benefits it would bring, they still voted against it.
"Litter and dog fouling is a major concern of local residents right across West Lancashire, and this measure will crack down on those who litter or let their pets foul our streets.
"In voting against this, Labour have once again failed the people of West Lancashire."
