Apply now for postal and proxy votes for the Derby Ward by-election
Voters living in West Lancashire Borough Council’s Derby Ward will go to the polls on Thursday 29 June 2017 for a by-election to elect a new councillor. If you live in Derby Ward you can vote in the elections even if you can’t get to your polling station on that day.
If you don’t think you will be able to go to your polling station then you can apply for a postal vote. Alternatively you can apply for a proxy vote, where someone you nominate can go to your polling station to cast your vote on your behalf.
Kim Webber, Returning Officer for the by-election, said: “You don’t need to be away or be housebound to apply for a postal or a proxy vote. Contact the Borough Council as soon as you can and make sure you can vote in this Derby Ward election. Anyone who wants to vote in this year’s election, either by post, proxy or going to the polling station, must be on the Electoral Register.”

Register to Vote
Derby Ward residents who voted in the 2017 Lancashire County Council elections and have received polling cards to vote in the General Election on 8 June 2017 do not need to register to vote again to vote in the Derby Ward by-election. If in doubt, people can check whether they’re registered to vote by calling the Council’s elections office on 01695 585014.
You can fill in an online registration by visiting Register to vote (external link) or Register to vote. For more information please email [email protected]. If you do not have access to the internet please ask the elections office for a paper registration form to be sent to you. The closing date to register to vote in the Derby Ward by election is Tuesday 13 June 2017.
Postal or Proxy Votes
To apply for a postal or proxy vote form please call the Elections Office on 01695 585014, email [email protected] or download an application form from How to vote. Or call in to: The Council Offices, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, West Lancashire, L39 2DF. Your completed application form for a postal vote must reach the Council by 5pm on Wednesday 14 June 2017, and completed application forms for a proxy vote must arrive by 5pm on Wednesday 21 June 2017.
Emergency Proxy Votes
Applications to vote by emergency proxy at these elections can be applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 21 June, or for work/service reasons, and must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, West Lancashire, L39 2DF by 5pm on Thursday 29 June 2017.
