Conservatives in West Lancashire have allocated more than £160,000 to improve community facilities.
The Borough Council's Cabinet agreed a package of improvements for facilities in Ormskirk, Burscough, Aughton and Tarleton. They include the following:
- Extra facilities at Coronation Park, improved access at Ruff Wood, improved drainage at West End, and new benches at Victoria Park, all in Ormskirk
- New furniture at Burscough War Memorial Park at Junction Lane
- Refurbishment to the play area and drainage works at Carr Lane, Tarleton
- Drainage improvements at Winifred Lane playing fields, better access at Redsands Park and improving the play area at Belvedere Park, all in Aughton
Cllr David Sudworth, Conservative Group Spokesman for Leisure, said: "I am pleased Cabinet has agreed to make more than £160,000-worth of improvements to community facilities across West Lancashire. Since Conservatives took control of the council, we have really focused on improving West Lancashire's open spaces as much as possible and this is just the latest phase of that."
The improvements have been welcomed by Borough Councillors, including Burscough East Conservative Cllr Ruth Melling, who campaigned for replacement litter bins and benches at Burscough's War Memorial Park on Junction Lane.
She said: "Conservatives have invested heavily in Burscough, overseeing vast improvements to the village which have benefited residents and businesses alike. We have also fought off attempts to introduce pay and display into Burscough, despite Labour voting against us.
"This latest investment is good news for Burscough. I lobbied the council for improvements to the park just a couple of months ago and they have acted very swiftly. Residents are delighted."
