A COUNTRY lane in Ormskirk has been blizted of litter after local Conservative candidate Edward McCarthy organised a clean up at the weekend.
Edward McCarthy, Conservative candidate for Scott Ward in the forthcoming Borough Council elections, led a team which included local County Councillor Rob Bailey, Ormskirk Councillor David Sudworth and Deputy Chairman of West Lancashire Conservative Association, Councillor Graham Jones, and local residents in tidying up Blackacre Lane on Sunday morning.
Among the items recovered included tyres, whisky and vodka bottles, black binliners full of household waste, a leather jacket, an old paint tin and a CD of Ringo Starr's greatest hits!
Edward said: "I am grateful to those councillors and residents who gave up their time on a Sunday morning. It was a big job but it has made a difference.
"I would also like to thank the Borough Council's Street Scene department who provided us with litter picking sticks and bin liners, as well as arranging to have all the litter and bulky items to be disposed of."
Edward has been active on the issue of litter since being selected as the Conservative candidate for Scott Ward last year, and has lobbied the authorities about the issue and also about graffiti in the ward.
Edward said: "Unfortunately, it only takes a small minority of irresponsible people to make an area look untidy. But by working closely with the community, we can make our area sparkle again."
