Conservative Party Co-Chairman Baroness Sayeeda Warsi praised Burscough's 'Big Society' approach to improving life for residents whilst on a visit to the West Lancashire village.
Baroness Warsi visited the regenerated Burscough Wharf as well as The Hop Vine pub and microbrewery on Liverpool Road North with Burscough Conservative Councillors Jason Grice, George Pratt, and Ruth Melling. Also in attendance was Derby Ward Cllr David Sudworth, Newburgh Cllr Eddie Pope and West Lancashire Conservative Association President Jenni Mayer.
Since the Conservatives won control of West Lancashire Borough Council, the village has flourished, and has attracted multi-million pound investments including the new Tesco and the more recently completed Merlin Park on Burscough Industrial Estate.
Baroness Warsi said: "I was delighted to visit Burscough Wharf today. The businesses there are thriving in tough times, and it was great to drop in for a chat with shop owners. I was also pleased to visit The Hop Vine, a fantastic example of how pubs can become the true centre of a local community."
Burscough West Conservative Cllr Jason Grice said: "We were pleased to be able to show Baroness Warsi the good work that is being done in Burscough. As an area, it has been transformed since the days Labour were in control of the Council when they failed to attract the kind of investment we have seen since the Conservatives won control of the Council."
Burscough East Conservative Cllr George Pratt, who was a key supporter of the regeneration of Burscough Wharf, said: "Burscough has proved what can be done when communities are given the freedom to shape their own futures. The Big Society is alive and well in Burscough, and is going from strength to strength."
