Take a step back in time and find out what life was like in West Lancashire 900 years ago by coming along to the marvellous Ormskirk Medieval Weekend at Coronation Park. The fabulous free two-day extravaganza on Saturday 14 May and Sunday 15 May will give visitors the chance to experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of Medieval England. West Lancashire Borough Council Parks and Countryside Service has organised the fantastic free event where 12th century re-enactment group Historia Normannis will take you on a journey through time. Over the weekend the park in Ormskirk will come alive with fabulous medieval-themed activities, entertainment and displays for people of all ages to enjoy between 11am and 5pm on both days. A similar event held last year was hugely successful with about 6,000 people attending over the weekend. Dave Tilleray, Director of Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “The Ormskirk Medieval Weekend had proved hugely popular over the last couple of year, and once again some wonderful displays and activities have been lined up which will make this extravaganza a great treat for all the family. So make sure you come and enjoy this fantastic event.” Members of Historia Normannis will do battle in exciting combat displays and tournaments. Visitors can try on the armour and take a closer look at the weapons and try their hand at archery. Everyday life in the 12th century will be featured with medieval cooking demonstrations and a fashion show to talk about the different styles of dress of the times. There were will also displays of medieval crafts. Several other medieval-themed activities and stalls are being planned for the day. Hungry visitors will be able to enjoy a range of refreshments. There will also be facepainting and children’s rides and a giant bouncy castle.
