Unhappy local residents on South Terrace have asked Edward McCarthy Conservative Candidate for Knowsley Ward for help over the increase to their visitor parking permits. The Labour controlled Lancashire County Council have increased the permits residents need for visitors from £10 to £25. Edward McCarthy said: “This increase is unjustifiable and far too high. I fully understand the pressures Lancashire County Council are under, but this increase is a huge jump. Residents on roads like South Terrace struggle for parking anyway, and this increase might make some residents not apply for a visitor permit. This will mean any visitors or contractors will have to park miles away. This will make many residents isolated. I urge the Council to think again. This increase is unreasonable and extremely unfair. I also believe in the future permits can only be renewed online, online applications should be an option but not the only option.” Edward added: “The whole process has not been handled well, residents were hand delivered a tiny note about the changes, which could have easily been thrown out with any junk mail. The note has no point of contact about who to question/ ask about these changes. The note states the changes were advertised in the Champion, only once, which could have easily been missed.” Margaret Dickinson Chairperson of the Queens Court Residents Association said: “The price increases are unfair, many people will now not get a visitor’s permit, we are working hard to make this area a nice place to live but this price increase will stop people coming to our local social events which take place. If residents have no visitor’s permit and have visitor’s or outside help round they will have to park elsewhere and walk miles struggling.” Margaret added: “We are starting a petition and will send in a complaint stating our objections.” Edward McCarthy, promoted by Bill Weingart, all of WLCA, 72C New Court Way, Ormskirk, Lancs L39 2YT.
