An update about the Bridge St bridge received by Edward McCarthy Knowsley Ward Candidate for 2016.
9-11-15
Dear Mr McCarthy
Thank you for your recent email.
Further to my last email, I have been in touch with the project team responsible for the bridge work at Ormskirk.
They have advised that works initially begin at the site on Monday 9 November 2015. This is preparatory work to the abutments and the arch that is taking place before the main works detailed in my last email.
As I also mentioned in my last email, we were required to undertake a prolonged road closure to install a scaffold structure from the road, and safely undertake the required work to the bridge.
On review of our working practices, it was decided that the scaffold structure would require us to close the road for a prolonged period of time. We would only be able to complete the work safely while we have taken possession of the line and as we would not be able to remove the scaffold between work shifts this would mean that the bridge would be closed for extended periods of time with no work taking place.
We want to minimise the disturbance we cause to residents in the area and are now reviewing our working method to try and find a way of working which, while requiring some traffic management, would infringe less on the road during the works. The project team are currently designing a new scaffold system which should achieve this.
Once the design has been completed and reviewed, we will work with the local Highways department to establish the scheme of road closures that we will require to complete the work. We want to ensure the work is completed as safely as possible while causing as little disturbance as possible
I can only apologise for the delay in this work taking place, but I hope this information explains the reason for this.
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Coles
