West Lancashire Conservatives condemn both Labour and Cllr Owens for raising fears over the possible closure of Park Pool. Labour for allowing a Draft Leisure Strategy to be made public that indicates Park Pool could close and Cllr Owens prematurely launching a press campaign and petition before the matter is considered at the Full Council on Wednesday.
Cllr David Westley, Leader of West Lancashire Conservatives, said; " Labour are now claiming they have no intention to close Park Pool but why does the Strategy recommend the future of Park Pool be kept under review. They have either done a quick u-turn under public pressure or they are alarmingly incompetent. As for Cllr Adrian Owens and his party of one, he should have waited until Wednesday before launching his possibly unnecessary scaremongering campaign. Sadly, he seems more interested in grabbing a headline than looking after the interests of the people of West Lancashire".
Cllr Westley also said; "I would reassure residents that the Conservative Group see Park Pool as an essential leisure facility for the wider Ormskirk area and will fight tooth and nail to ensure Park Pool remains open, that it receives the necessary ongoing investment to maintain the facilities and that plans are put in place for an eventual replacement on the same site".
Candidate for Derby Ward Thomas Burton said, “Park Pool is a fantastic sports centre that is used by all members of the community and West Lancashire Conservatives will ensure that Park Pool remains open".
Edward McCarthy Candidate for Knowsley Ward added, “The last few days will have caused unnecessary worry not only for residents but for the hard working staff. I hope the weeks ahead will allow for a full leisure strategy based on facts to emerge.”
