Musicians and other performers can show off their talents at the first ever Parbold Art and Music Street Festival on Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September.
The fabulous two-day festival will be packed with free entertainment, a wide variety of stalls, and opportunities to be creative and join in a fun procession. There will also be live music, food and drink and Saturday evening a Festival of Lights provided by barges on the canal.
Parbold has been a hive of activity in preparation for this exciting occasion which is being organised by West Lancashire Borough Council’s Arts Development Service, Parbold Community Association and Parbold Unlimited. It will feature the telling of a tall tail based on Parbold Hill.
Organisers teamed up with professional artists Andy and Sharon Shaw and writer Sarah Schofield on a series of creative writing and art workshops for local people to be part of building towards this colourful spectacular.
A wide range of participants are wanted to perform as part of a procession, especially dancers to take part in a dance workshop that will lead to key roles in the performances.
Anyone interested should attend on the following days:
Rehearsal: Friday 21 August, 3.30pm-5pm, Parbold Women’s institute. This is an amazing opportunity to become part of a mythical magical beast. Seven places are available.
Rehearsal: Friday 28 August 3pm–5pm at Parbold Village Hall – Organisers want to cast the role of Tia, a young girl who will perform the lead role, plus a number of other performers who will perform as a shoal of fish, and are looking for teenagers to take part in this rehearsal.
To complement the procession organisers need some marvellous musical accompaniment. Please contact Jenni Ashcroft at the Chapel Gallery for information about drop-in community percussion workshops for people of all ages, who are musically minded.
Performers and musicians will need to be available to perform on Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September. Contact dance specialist Jennifer Stokes on email: [email protected] or [email protected] and [email protected].
The festival has been created after Parbold Community Association was awarded a lottery grant of £15,000 to create such an event.
There are still plenty of arts workshops for people to contribute to the festival: Thursday 20 August and Friday 21 August at Parbold Women’s Institute: Come along and help create the beast living under Parbold Hill. Could it be a dragon or some other mythical creature. These sessions are most suited for children aged 8 plus due to the materials and size of structure. There are two sessions on both days,10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm.
Tuesday 25 August and Thursday 27 August, Parbold Women’s Institute, 1pm and 4pm. Lantern making, based on fishes and boats to accompany the creature through the streets on its visit to Parbold. If you miss the lantern making dates you can visit Parbold Village Hall on Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 August, from 1pm-4pm, to continue making the lanterns.
More details of what is happening on the festival days will be revealed shortly.
