Christmas arrived early in Coronation Park as the new play area was launched.
Work has now been completed to transform the 5-12’s play area in Coronation Park near the entrance by Morrisons.
Children will be able to unwrap the delights of the fun new basket swing along with a great multi-play climbing unit, unique style multi-person spring mobile and a donkey spring mobile. Traditional swings have also been installed.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “The new play equipment in Coronation Park looks great and I am sure children will have many happy hours playing on the swings, mobiles and climbing frame.”
The winning design was chosen by children from St Anne’s Catholic Primary School and Aughton Christ Church CE Primary School, who were consulted for their ideas. They had the chance to come to the park see how their chosen design has become a reality.
Barbara Stevens, Aughton Christ Church CE Primary School, head teacher, said; “The children really enjoyed coming up with the designs. Every child in school was able to vote for their favourite design and were very pleased to see their designs appear in the park as real play equipment. I have seen the delighted faces on the children using the new equipment and I am sure it is going to bring a lot of pleasure and fun for the children of Ormskirk for many years to come.”
Year 5 pupils at the school are really happy with the new play area.
Jack said: “I think the new basket swing is amazing because it is easy to push and we can have lots of fun with our friends.”
Abbi added: “I like the new climbing frame because it is more adventurous.”
Classmate Lois said: “I like the animal see-saw because they are good fun to play on.” Another pupil, Callum, said: “My little brother really likes to climb on the little equipment because he can play on them on his own.”
William added: “It was good to see part of my design become something real to play on in the park.”
Lesley Rice, learning mentor at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, said: “The children, who are members of the school council, really enjoyed participating in the design of the new play area, and think that it is much improved.”
All the St. Anne’s pupils really liked the improved play area.
