A local councillor's three year battle over a road surface hazard on the M58 in West Lancashire has ended in victory.
Cllr David Sudworth raised the issue of a large bump in the carriageway with Highways Agency officials back in 2011.
The undulation is situated on the Wigan-bound side of the carriageway near the Up Holland and Pimbo entrance.
For three years, Cllr Sudworth has been pressing for action, and has now been advised that works are set to start in November.
Cllr Sudworth said: "The large bump can be quite a shock for lorry drivers who aren't used to this stretch of motorway. And I've seen motorists who clearly know about it actually move over to the third lane to avoid going over it.
"When I raised the issue with the Highways Agency, they advised me that it had been caused by the movement of a large concrete foundation slab from when the motorway was originally built.
"I'm told this will now be replaced with a new, geotechnical layer which should prevent the same thing happening in the future.
"The Highways Agency says work is due to start at the beginning of November. However. due to the scale of the works, it is expected to take four weeks and will result in that part of the motorway being closed, with traffic being diverted onto the opposite carriageway under contraflow arrangements.
"Obviously, this may mean some delays, which will be frustrating, but this is important work to make the motorway safer.
"I'm pleased that, following my persistent efforts, the Highways Agency has now promised to finally take action over this hazard."
