Residents in West Lancs can now recycle clean aluminium foil, foil food containers and foil trays in their blue bin or blue box. All items should be washed first.
The change has been introduced by West Lancashire Borough Council to help people recycle more of their household rubbish and reduce the amount that goes to landfill. Latest figures show that around 50% of household waste is recycled, thanks to the efforts of residents.
Clean aluminium foil, along with foil food trays and other types of foil food containers should be washed and placed in the blue bin (or blue box) along with glass bottles and jars; cans, tins and aerosols; and plastic bottles.
Residents are advised to take care about what they put into the blue bin. If the materials are contaminated by other waste then the bin may not be emptied and the collection team may put a sticker on the bin to explain.
Full information about what can be recycled and what should be put into which bin is available at refuse and recycling. Residents can also check their collection day and report any collection problems online via the website, which is available 24/7.
