Staff at the Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk are thrilled to host the prestigious World Illustration Awards 2015 Touring Exhibition after its hugely successful stint at Somerset House in London.
The awards aim to recognise the exceptional work produced by illustrators around the world and the selected highlights are toured around the UK. The Chapel Gallery has achieved a significant feat by securing the only confirmed venue slot in the North of England from Saturday 16 January to Saturday 20 February.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 16 January when there will be lots of free creative activities to enjoy.
Work by international artists from the UK to South Korea and South Africa to The Netherlands features in the exhibition which includes the 16 category winners whose work has been selected from over 2,000 international entries and honoured for its creativity and craftsmanship. The winners fall into two sections: Professional, open to all practicing professionals, and New Talent, open to students and recent graduates.
Education tours, talks and workshops at the West Lancashire Borough Council-run gallery are booking up fast. Anyone interested in or studying, art, design or illustration should not miss the opportunity to explore this collection of the very best international work of this kind. For more details on talks, tours and workshops please call the gallery on 01695 571328 or email [email protected].
Showing alongside this exhibition until Saturday 13 February is Manchester fine art painter, Anthony Ogden. Inspired by the masters, such as Caravaggio, Velasquez and Rembrandt, he employs their techniques to produce his own rich and enigmatic works. Anthony Ogden was voted Peoples' Prize Winner from the West Lancashire Open Exhibition 2014.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “The Chapel Gallery is starting 2016 with some wonderful exhibitions so make sure you come along and see some wonderful art on display.”
