West Lancs Labour's opposition to CCTV shows they are “soft on crime.”
Speaking after Wednesday's West Lancs Borough Council budget meeting, where Labour refused to support CCTV for Burscough, Scarisbrick, Downholland and Tarleton, Cllr David Sudworth, the Conservative Group spokesman for community safety, said:"Keeping West Lancashire safe is a priority for local Conservatives – that’s why we revealed plans to expand CCTV in Burscough, Downholland, Scarisbrick and Tarleton. These locations were supported by the police and local parish councils as some of the areas listed suffer from cross-border crime. I have personally lobbied the Labour Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire on this matter and he recognises that cross-border crime is an issue in the borough."
“It is regrettable Labour spent a large amount of time on the night mocking local people’s concerns, saying it wasn’t needed and fighting to get it taken out of the Conservative budget. Labour councillors then showed their rank hypocrisy by actually calling for more CCTV in what they arrogantly see as 'their' areas."
“To them it’s all about political advantage. To Conservatives, it’s about keeping all areas of West Lancs as safe as possible, which is why we’ve already invested heavily in other areas including Ormskirk, Skelmersdale, Rufford, Aughton and Hesketh Bank."
"Labour used to be supposedly tough on crime. But alongside their 1.99% council tax rise at County Hall, people know that Labour are soft on crime but tough on the taxpayer."
