Conservative parliamentary candidate for West Lancashire, Paul Greenall, has said Labour are 'running scared' after they failed to turn up for an election hustings debate at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk on Thursday March 12th.
Paul said: "I was delighted to be invited to Edge Hill University Student Union election hustings debate last week. It was a great opportunity to meet local students and other candidates."
"Although some candidates couldn't be there on the evening, most parties sent representatives - apart from Labour. I was told Labour actually declined the invitation to send any representatives to the election debate. I fully understand that Ed Miliband's candidate may not have been available, but Labour has over 20 councillors on the borough council, yet they couldn't be bothered to send anyone. They're obviously running scared of local debate. Even UKIP, which has no councillors locally, was able to send a representative in place of its parliamentary candidate, who was unable to attend."
"It was disappointing and demonstrates once again how Labour take the people of West Lancashire for granted. Let's hope they get their just deserts on May 7th."
