It follows a Major Service Review which will see the Chief Executive post, as well as a number of other posts deleted - the majority of which were through voluntary redundancy.
Because of this, and the number of efficiency savings made across a number of departments, it has meant the number of compulsory redundancies has been minimised to six.Labour voted against this package of measures, opting instead to put off making difficult choices now. In doing so, they would have risked deep cuts and/or soaring Council Tax bills in years to come.Cllr David Westley, Conservative portfolio holder for Resources and Transformation, said: "We have made the tough choices which Labour would have ducked. They would have buried their heads in the sand yet again, risking deep cuts further down the line and/or hiking up Council Tax, which is what they did when they were last in control of the Council."
At the same meeting, Conservatives took through an agreement to protect 85 jobs and maintaining services for vulnerable people by working together with Lancashire County Council and One Connect Ltd who will process, among other things, benefit payments in future.Conservative Group deputy leader Cllr Adrian Owens said: “ Labour's solution would be raiding reserves without any plan as to where the savings would be after year one. Maybe this is Labour's Plan B.... B for Bankruptcy.
"As a Conservative Group, we are determined to do everything we can to protect jobs, services and inward investment in West Lancashire .These are difficult times and we need to cut our cloth accordingly. As elected representatives, we are there to make decisions in the best interests of West Lancashire residents and that is what we are doing."
