September brings some fabulous events for people to enjoy in West Lancashire’s parks and countryside.You can learn new skills and play a role in maintaining part of our beautiful natural landscape, as well as enjoying the beautiful local scenery.
Councillor David Sudworth, Derby Ward councillor and portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, said: “September is a great time to visit our local parks and countryside as summer turns to autumn, and there are also some great events for people to enjoy.”
Nature lovers can take a walk and enjoy a talk with a bat expert and the West Lancashire Borough Council rangers to find out all about the bats living on Coronation Park, Ormskirk on Saturday 7 September from 7pm. Bat detectors will be used. Please bring a torch if you have one.
Volunteers can help with a clean-up at Tawd Valley Park, the hidden treasure in Skelmersdale's countryside, on Saturday 14 September. They should meet the rangers at Summer Street at 10am. It is likely to be muddy in places so wear suitable footwear and clothing.
A professional craft worker will be teaching traditional countryside skills at the Beacon Country Park Woodland Crafts Weekend on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September.
Taking part in the weekend will cost £50. On the first day the craft worker will teach people basic greenwood working techniques which will culminate in them making a spatula. Then on Sunday people taking part in the course will use the techniques they have already learnt plus some new ones to make a rustic stool to take home for the garden. Sessions on both days last from 10am to 4pm. Booking is essential and can be done by phoning the Ranger service on 01695 622794.
Coronation Park hosts a Creepy Crawly Night Walk on Saturday 21 September, starting from 8pm. Accompanied by a local moth expert, visitors can take a closer look at the many mini beasts and moths that live in the park. Please bring a torch if you have one.
