The West Lancashire Conservative Group have launched its Manifesto for the Borough Election on the 7th May 2015.
The Leader of the Council, David Westley said: "The Conservatives have an excellent record over the last 14 years whilst in control of the Council, providing fairness for all, low council tax, value for money frontline services and investment in our town and village centres. Our Manifesto builds on these achievements and provides a clear choice for the all the residents of West Lancashire."
The Deputy Leader, Councillor Paul Greenall said: "The choice is between a Conservative or a Labour run Council. A vote for any of the minor parties is a vote for Labour who have been an ineffective opposition and would fail West Lancashire if they gained control. They consistently ducked the tough decisions like efficiency savings and the Local Plan."
Manifesto
- Council Tax: Continued sound management of Council finances which has seen Council Tax frozen for 6 years.
- Town Centre Investment: Continued investment in our town and village centres. Burscough transformed; Ormskirk being transformed in Moor St and the car parks, new Christmas Lights and a new plan to regenerate the Bus Station; Skelmersdale regeneration on course for delivery in 2016.
- Transport: Continue to press the County Council to repair potholes, make the long overdue investments to our road and rail network and to maintain and improve essential bus services.
- Liverpool City Region: Continue to work closely with this new Authority and pursue full membership so West Lancashire can be part of the Northern Powerhouse and our residents can enjoy the same travel benefits as Merseyside.
- Jobs: Under the Conservatives the West Lancashire's economy is growing faster than anywhere else in Lancashire and unemployment is lower. We will continue to play our part in this great success story.
- Student Accommodation: Introduce additional restrictions on the number of student properties in residential areas, with student accommodation being concentrated in Ormskirk Town centre.
- Councillors & Elections: Reduce the number of Councillors by at least a third and move to single 'all-out' borough elections every four years, saving more than £100k a year.
- Housing: Our Local Plan will protect the Greenbelt to the maximum extent possible, while delivering much-needed affordable housing.
- Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour: Continue working with Lancashire Police to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, investing in additional CCTV for our towns and villages.
- Recycling: Continue to increase recycling and NOT introduce charges for Green Waste collections as in some other Council areas.
- Flood Defences and Drainage:Continue to hold the Environment Agency to account so our borough is protected from flooding and resist moves to pass the cost of these works on to the council tax payers of West Lancashire.Promoted by G Pratt on behalf of West Lancs Conservatives.
