Plans to improve the area around the war memorial in Sandy Lane, Old Skelmersdale, have been welcomed.
Edward McCarthy, Conservative Candidate for Skelmersdale West at next year's Lancs County Council elections, has praised the plans submitted to the Borough Council.
If granted planning permission, improvements will be made on land opposite the war memorial as well as new shrub planting behind the actual memorial. On the grassland opposite, there will be proposed new bulb planting, a proposed new pathway and a paved area with a proposed mosaic or paving feature with a war memorial theme.
Commenting on the plans, Edward said: "I welcome the plans to improve the area around the war memorial. Particularly at this time of year as Remembrance Day approaches, our thoughts turn towards those who have lost their lives defending the freedoms and values we cherish today.
"The proposals will turn part of what is currently and very much underused field back into a focal point for the area around the war memorial, and that is to be welcomed."
