VOTERS across West Lancashire are being taken for fools by the Labour MP Rosie Cooper, who according to reports is refusing to stand down until a list of demands are met.
That’s the view of the Conservative candidate, Mike Prendergast, in the by-election brought about by Ms Cooper, who despite accepting a new job with the NHS, has yet to tender her resignation as a Member of Parliament.
Commenting on reports in the national press that the Labour MP wants certain conditions met before walking away from Parliament, Mike said:
Like many, I was shocked to read the allegations that our outgoing MP is demanding a peerage before agreeing to officially stand down as the Member of Parliament for West Lancashire.
According to the story in The Sunday Times, Labour is upset because they had to move staff and cancel a regional conference. Mike added:
The people of West Lancs will be upset that Labour is taking them for fools and assuming that no-one will notice that they appear to be using the area as a bargaining chip in a grubby little deal about a seat in the House of Lords. The arrogance is astonishing.
It is disgraceful that the people of West Lancs and their right to vote on their next MP is being haggled over in this way.
We’ve had 30 years of Labour in West Lancashire and people are sick and tired of the party taking them for granted, they assume they can get away with anything and assume that no matter what they do, they will still win.
We need a change in West Lancashire, we can’t afford another 30 years of Labour and these kind of sordid back-room deals.
