Summer is a great time to visit local parks and the countryside and there are some really enjoyable free events being planned for people to enjoy in June.
Coronation Park in Ormskirk hosts the fabulous Eat to the Beat music and food extravaganza on Sunday 7 June from midday to 4pm.
The event features local bands and community groups performing and providing activities for the public to take part in.
Talented student bands and musicians from the Sound Affects Studios’ School Of Rock will provide the music. Other performers will include Erin Howard, Andy Seddon and Flashmob, and there will also be dance workshops.
There will also be a climbing wall, Gruffalo Trail, and a chance to play tennis and show off your football skills.
Eat to the Beat incorporates The Big Lunch, which will be hosted by staff from Halifax Bank. Food treats will include a barbecue, sandwiches, cakes, sweets, candy floss and ice creams.
On Saturday 13 June visitors to Beacon Country Park can join the Rangers on the Useful and Edible Plants walk, starting at 10am. This is a gentle three-mile stroll on which local experts will reveal some of the fascinating uses for different plants found growing all around us. This event is free but booking is essential, so please call the rangers on 01695 622794 or email [email protected].
Volunteers can help the rangers tackle the problem with Himalayan Balsam, a plant that is choking out our native flora, at our Balsam Bashing Event on Sunday 14 June. People taking part should meet at the lay-by opposite Fairy Glen, one of our most picturesque and diverse countryside sites, on the A5209, Appley Bridge, at 10am.
All children under 16 require adult supervision throughout the duration of the Useful and Edible Plants walk and the Balsam Bashing event. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather and ground conditions for both of these activities.
Richmond Park in Burscough hosts a fun day on Sunday 28 June between 11am and 4pm. Supported by the Friends of Richmond Park, this promises to be a great day out with fun activities for all the family. There’s a fun fair, bouncy castle and fun dog show, as well as 'have a go' sessions at tennis and bowling and a five-a-side football competition. There are also refreshment stalls, singers, dancers and bands, all celebrating our community and its diversity.
