The councillor in charge of West Lancashire Borough Council's leisure facilities has hailed the "significant investment" taking place in Skelmersdale.
Cllr David Sudworth says plans for a new path and cycle way in Tawd Valley Park, linking the town centre with the new West Lancashire College and Ashurst, will complement improvements already made and others currently underway in the town.
Cllr Sudworth, Conservative cabinet member for leisure, said: "I'm delighted the Conservative cabinet recently approved up to £200,000 towards the new Tawd path and cycle way.
"It will not only enhance the Tawd area, but will also go well alongside other improvements. This includes new Youth Zone, a Conservative initiative which is now under construction by the county council, repairs to the bridge over the steam running towards the River Tawd and better seating areas in the town centre.
"Conservatives have got a record of significantly investing and improving Skelmersdale's public open spaces. We massively enhanced Stanley Coronation Park for its 100th anniversary and transformed the sports pitches at Blaguegate which are so good, professional teams such as Widnes Vikings have used them for training.
"Skelmersdale's community centres have also been given a new lease of life after being transferred to voluntary organisations, and we continue to support local sports clubs and other groups through the Community Chest Fund, which Labour councillors say they would axe." This shows that, despite tough times caused by the need to pay off Labour's debt, we are determined to continue investing in Skelmersdale."
Notes to Editors
The money for the Tawd path was received by the borough council from developer contributions, known as Section 106 agreements, from the construction of the new West Lancashire College building.
