A COMMUNITY activist is organising a litter pick in Ormskirk this week - and is now on the lookout for volunteers. Edward McCarthy, Conservative candidate for Scott Ward in the forthcoming Borough Council elections, wants people to help brighten up the Blackacre Lane area this Sunday (January 29). It comes after Edward was approached by local residents concerned about litter on the lane. Edward is liaising with the Borough Council's Street Scene department on the matter, who are giving support by providing pickers and bags. Edward said: "Many residents have contacted me about litter in this area so I decided to help tackle the matter by organising a community litter pick. "I'm delighted the council are supporting my initiative and I hope as many people as possible will join in. By working together alongside the council, we can blitz the area of bottles, cans, crisp packets and other discarded items." Since being selected as the Conservative candidate for Scott Ward, Edward has been working closely with residents to get action on a number of issues of local concern. These include weeds on path linking Heskin Lane to West End School and Marians Drive to West End School, as well as lobbying Network Rail about litter along Railway Rd. Network Rail cleaned up the are and agreed regular cleaning of the area. To join in Edward's litter pick, meet at 11am on Sunday on Blackacre Lane just after Renfrey Close.
