Thomas Burton, the Conservative candidate for the Derby Ward in the local elections has been speaking to many concerned residents over the introduction of a 34 week collection service for Green Bins which was approved by Labour at a Council Meeting on 24th February 2016.
Labour Councillors on West Lancashire Borough Council recently decided to cut the service for collecting Green Bins. Under the new Labour proposals Green Bins within West Lancashire will no longer be collected between 1st November to the 28th February.
It was agreed that a 34 week Green Waste Collection service will now be approved and possible charges for collecting Green Bins in 2016/17 have not been dismissed by the Labour group.
Thomas Burton said, "At the same meeting Labour increased Council Tax and introduced a reduction in our Green Bin Collection services. Therefore, we are now paying more Council Tax but receiving a reduced service which is not giving value for money for the residents of West Lancashire.”
Thomas Burton continued by saying, “The Green Bin Collection service offers a highly successful refuse collection and recycling service and by reducing this service it could discourage people from recycling at a time when it is so important for our environment to recycle. The action taken by West Lancashire Labour group highlights that Labour do not value our environment as this reduced collection service could have a negative impact upon recycling rates within West Lancashire and possibly increase fly tipping within the local area.”
