Local Conservatives have this week welcomed news that the revised four day a week bin and recyclates collections introduced in June have driven down fuel usage by 5-7% saving the council around £21,000 a year.
The new zoned collection service sees collections taking place from Tuesday to Friday and although residents may have had to cope with a change to their collection day the saving will mean that savings won't need to come from frontline services. The changes are also reducing air pollution, carbon dioxide emissions and wear and tear on the Borough's roads.
Leading Conservative councillors have also agreed to further improvements which will see investment in new waste vehicles increasing fuel savings still further in the future.
Local Conservatives - we don't forget it's your money we're spending.
