Local Conservative Candidates Thomas Burton (Derby Ward) and Edward McCarthy (Knowsley Ward), together with County Councillor David Westley and two local volunteers helped tidy up of the path between Ormskirk’s Train Station and Bus Station.
Thomas Burton said: “We conducted a tidy up as it was clear to see there was a large amount of litter in this area ranging from shopping trolleys, roadwork signs, drinks bottles, cans and much more. The tidy up has improved the local area for residents and commuters. However, this highlights the lack of bins provided which leads to people littering here. The way to solve this is for Network Rail and the Borough Council to work together to install bins which are regularly emptied. I shall campaign for the installation of bins along this well used path therefore improving the appearance of the area for local residents and other users of the path.”
Edward McCarthy said: “I would like to thanks West Lancs Borough Council for providing litter bags and litter pickling devices, as well as taking the litter away. We also brightened the area by way of adding a few plants. The work shows what we can achieve together, and this shows what we will do if elected. Local Councillors should take pride in their area and organise projects like this.”
