Make sure you don’t miss the super summer of fun in Ormskirk town centre with events featuring music, vintage fairs and magnificent motoring planned until the end of the school holidays.
The programme links in with the aims of the Ormskirk Town Centre Strategy to bring more events to the town for people to enjoy.
Ormskirk Market has more than 100 stalls to browse every Thursday and Saturday and Love Your Local Market activities in May got the summer off to a flying start. There was live entertainment including singers and dancers; vintage fete games street entertainers and a competition for the best dressed market stall which was won by Julia Doyle who sells bags and scarves. Greg Anderton, Edge Hill student and owner of business Leafy Lytham who ran a market stall at the event, said Ormskirk was buzzing and had a wonderful atmosphere during the events.
The fun continues with speciality markets on the last weekend in every month at the Chapel Gallery and nearby streets, which will feature something for everyone to enjoy.
The Makers’ Markets feature the work of local artisans passionate about selling their handmade and unique work, and take place on summer Saturdays 25 June, 30 July, and 27 August before continuing into the autumn, taking place on 24 September, and 29 October.
Vintage and Handmade Fairs will host a great selection of stalls selling clothes, household objects, delicious food as well as providing fabulous entertainment and family activities. These will take place on summer Sundays 31 July and 28 August (the day of Ormskirk MotorFest), and continue into the autumn, taking place on 25 September and 30 October. The prestigious West Lancashire Open Exhibition at the Chapel Gallery is open from 16 July to 7 September 2016 and celebrates the creative talents of ambitious amateurs, accomplished students and professional artists from throughout the region. Different types of works including photographs, paintings, textiles, and anything else in between will be on display.
There will also be plenty of activities for young people and families at the Chapel Gallery during the summer holidays. More details will be revealed soon.
The first Gingerbread Festival on Saturday 30 July will be opened by the Mayor of West Lancashire and will feature entertainment by the Fabulous Lancashire Revels theatre group. Other attractions include vintage music, demonstrations of traditional skills including lace making, decorated market stalls and shops, and heritage displays about Ormskirk and the making of gingerbread in the town. There will also be face painters, vintage fete games, a magician and stilt walkers. The Festival is organised by the Ormskirk Community Partnership, with the support of the Ormskirk Town Centre Management Group.
Ormskirk MotorFest on Sunday 28 August is the North West's premier free motoring spectacular and a fantastic day out for all the family. A fabulous array of cars and motorcycles from all eras of motoring will be on display at this marvellous occasion, and many of these will join in the exciting parade laps around the town centre. The Ormskirk MotorFest is organised by Aintree Circuit Club and supported by West Lancashire Borough Council.
