West Lancashire Borough Council has commissioned an independent study by Lancaster University into the impact Ormskirk’s nightlife of restaurants, bars and clubs is having on people living, working and visiting the town centre.
A key part of the study is the Ormskirk Night-time Economy (NTE) Survey which you can take part in to give your views and help inform the research.
The Survey is aimed at all members of our community and will help Council staff and Councillors better understand how the NTE operates, and the positive and negative impact it may have.
The survey will be online at www.westlancs.gov.uk/yourviews from Thursday 19 February to Friday 6 March inclusive. It is completely anonymous and voluntary and should take not more than 20 minutes to complete. We would like to hear the views of residents, business owners, students and other visitors to the town. Only those aged over 18 are asked to complete it.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Ormskirk’s night time economy is an important part of the town. Many people from the town and the surrounding area enjoy coming here for a meal or a few drinks, and the bars and restaurants provide many jobs for local people.
“However, we know that many people are worried about the impact on the town in terms of crime and anti social behaviour. This study will provide the Council with as full a picture as possible of the opportunities and challenges ahead to ensure Ormskirk remains a popular place to live, work and visit.”
Researchers from Lancaster University have already spent time in Ormskirk to examine what happens on a busy weekday and weekend night. They have also interviewed key people to get their views, including residents group members, police officers, Edge Hill University staff, Council staff, and Councillors.
The findings will be reported to a future meeting of the Licensing and Gambling Committee.
