Thousands of people packed Ormskirk on August Bank Holiday Sunday as the first Ormskirk Motorfest roared into town.
The Motorfest was organised by Aintree Circuit Club and was championed by club member and local Borough Council Officer, Colin Brady. The event was strongly supported by the Conservative council who financially underwrote the event with the sum of £10,000 even when others cast doubt on proceeding.
Local people were stalwarts of the event and even the occasional light shower couldn't dampen spirits as cars and motorbikes lapped the town centre. Cars as old as a 1915 vintage Austin were in action, along with the ill-fated aluminium De Lorean sportscar. Seeing a Formula One racing car in action on Derby Street was a sight not to be forgotten.
Burscough Conservative councillor, Jason Grice took part in the event with his motorbike, while Ormskirk councillor and Deputy Leader Adrian Owens hailed the event as a great boost for the town.
"The Motorfest was a fantastic community event. For instance, I saw ward residents of mine not only enjoying the spectacle but acting as event stewards and driving cars and motorbike/sidecars in the event itself. The event was of a scale where all the family could enjoy and experience the history and range of motor vehicles close up. Well done to Aintree Circuit Club, Colin Brady from the council and my Conservative councillor colleagues for backing this event and raising Ormskirk's profile among the many visitors."
