The Council has approved £37,500 of funding for the MotorFest which will go towards the costs of the next three annual events. The 2014 MotorFest will take place on Sunday 24 August.
Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning and Development, said: “West Lancashire Borough Council is proud to be associated with a hugely successful event like the Ormskirk MotorFest. Whilst the Council’s budgets are under pressure the MotorFest is an important occasion and we are pleased we have still been able to find this funding.
“With this funding organisers can plan ahead to make the MotorFest grow and become a major event in the motoring calendar. Every effort will be made to recover the costs of putting on the event by obtaining sponsorship.”
Mike Ashcroft, Aintree Circuit Club chairman, said: “We are really grateful to the Council for providing this funding. We are always looking for ways to make the MotorFest even more entertaining, and this money gives us a stable platform to plan for the future.”
Attendances have grown each year of the MotorFest and last year the crowds enjoyed some superb attractions including the autosolo challenge which saw professional drivers testing their skills.
Visitors also admired the 2003 Le Mans winning Bentley Speed 8, which was one of more than 250 cars and motorcycles on display around Ormskirk Town Centre during the day.
Organisers are already busy planning for this year’s MotorFest, when a fabulous array of cars and motorcycles from all eras of motoring will once again be on display.
Other special attractions are being organised to make the day even more enjoyable for visitors. More details will be revealed in the coming months.
