Young people in Burscough are making the most of a recently-opened, imaginative and exciting play area.
The Manor Road-based play area was boosted through the partnership of Conservative-run Lancashire County and West Lancashire Borough Councils. It is aimed at young people between the age of 8 and 13. It is designed to encourage adventurous outdoor play, and has been fully adapted for use by disabled children.
Play equipment including a space ship slide, a tunnel, wobbly walk-way, a climbing frame, swinging boat and swings, was made possible by a grant of £47,000 from Lancashire County Council's Playbuilder initiative.
Mark Perks, Lancashire’s Conservative cabinet member for young people added: "I am delighted that young people in Burscough are getting so much fun and pleasure out of this wonderful play area. It's absolutely vital that young people are able to play outside in an environment that's safe but also challenging.
"As a result of the county council's Playbuilder scheme, there are now 26 play areas throughout Lancashire. And, as in Burscough, the feedback from the young people has been very positive."
Borough Conservative Andrew Fowler, portfolio holder for Community Services and Health at West Lancashire Borough Council, added: “This excellent new facility has provided the community in Burscough with somewhere for children and families to enjoy. The natural timber design also means it blends in well with the rest of Manor Road Park.”
