A NEW Citizen's Advice service is set to open in West Lancashire thanks to a substantial cash boost from the Conservative controlled Borough Council.
West Lancashire's Conservative Cabinet agreed at its meeting last night (Tuesday) to approve a grant to secure at least a three year future for a new service in the Concourse, Skelmersdale.
It has also been agreed that a one off start up grant will be made available.
The service will be run by Chorley, South Ribble and Districts Citizen's Advice Bureau following the closure of West Lancashire CAB last year.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Conservative spokesman for Community Services, said: "This is excellent news for West Lancashire and will ensure residents have access to quality advice and information.
"Although the service will be based in Skelmersdale, it will have a Borough wide scope and I know they are already looking at ways of engaging people across West Lancashire, particularly in the more rural areas.
"As a council, we were a long-time financial supporter of the old West Lancs CAB and were saddened by its sudden closure. We have, by working hard, managed to ensure that the much needed service, provided up until last December, will now be continued through our new partnership with South Ribble and Districts Citizen's Advice Bureau."
