Derby Ward Conservative candidate Edward McCarthy has welcomed plans to improve the parking for users of Ruff Wood on Vicarage Lane.
The Conservative borough council has set aside monies to resurface a pothole-ridden lay by in its budget. It comes after the Council recently invested in Ruff Wood by improving pathways; installing new benches; improved signage and introduced a number of chain saw animal carvings into dead wood features within the ancient woodland.
Edward said: “This news demonstrates that, by working closely with residents, local Conservatives continue to deliver real improvements for our area. The improvements are to be welcomed, a lot of people enjoy Ruff Wood and the improved parking will make it more accessible for people with pushchairs/wheelchairs to use the woods. From my own experience this will make a big difference”.
Derby Ward councillor Paul Greenall, who is also the Conservative general election candidate for West Lancs, said: "I have witnessed at first hand a number of residents/ local groups enjoying these new improvements. The animal carvings are great, and maybe the idea could be used in other places in the future.”
The improvements to the woods were funded from receipts received by the council from new housing developments in the Derby Ward.
Cabinet Member for Leisure and Derby Ward Councillor David Sudworth said: “I am pleased once again that this Conservative council is bringing projects forward to improve public open spaces in Ormskirk."
“With the expansion of Edge Hill, and new housing on the old hospital and Atkinson Kirby sites on Wigan Road, Derby Ward has seen a number of developments in recent years. It’s therefore only right that monies generated from such developments are ploughed back into the local community to benefit the local community."
