Recent analysis of government figures on council tax charged by Lancashire councils shows that West Lancashire residents pay 12% less than the Lancashire average on the district council element of their council tax. In contrast in 2001, when Labour ran West Lancashire, local people paid more than their Lancashire neighhbours.
Thanks to almost a decade of Conservative sound financial management which has seen the lowest council tax rises of anywhere in Lancashire, local residents on an average Band D council tax are now paying £76 less than people living in Preston.
Over the same time, West Lancashire Conservatives running the council have:
- boosted recycling rates to almost 50%;
- improved parks, play areas and open spaces dramatically including achieving Green Flag status at Beacon and Coronation Parks;
- seen our leisure trust partnership investing in significant improvements in our leisure centres.
These few examples show that good services can be achieved at an affordable cost.
