Four Conservative voices for Skelmersdale have slammed the town's Labour councillors for talking down the area - and have urged locals to vote for positive change. Amanda Shaw, James Trafford, Bill Weingart and Amanda Kay are contesting the Moorside, Skelmersdale South, Tanhouse and Ashurst wards respectively on May 22. Together, they have pledged to work tirelessly as local community champions.
Amanda Kay, who is the Conservative candidate for Ashurst, said: "Skelmersdale has a fantastic community spirit. It has had hard times caused by Labour's recession but is now on the up again thanks to Conservative investment. It's time local people had ward councillors who stood up for Skelmersdale instead of talking it down."
Moorside candidate Amanda Shaw said: "Skelmersdale has so much going for it - fantastic open spaces, improved leisure facilities, falling unemployment and great business facilities. Spreading the word and encouraging others to do the same will attract more investment - something to which I'm fully committed. “ Bill, who is standing in Tanhouse Ward, said: "Conservatives are fixing the mess left by the Labour Party. Skelmersdale now has falling unemployment and we are giving people who were parked on benefits by Labour the opportunity of getting into employment. "We are ending Labour's something for nothing culture and the hardworking people of Skelmersdale are fully behind us." James, who is standing in Skelmersdale South Ward, said: "Voting Conservative will send a strong message to the complacent and out of touch Labour Party who have taken Skelmersdale for granted for far too long."
