Labour's breathtaking hypocrisy over the proposed closure of Glenburn Sports College in Skelmersdale has been exposed by local Conservatives.
Labour-run Lancs County Council have put the Yewdale school under threat of closure. Yet local Labour councillors, and even the MP, have been seen supporting the campaign to keep it open!
Once again, Labour is publicly split about an important local issue.
David Meadows, Conservative by-election candidate for Skelmersdale North, said: "Labour's hypocrisy is breathtaking. They are cosying up to worried parents and teachers, knowing full well their party's decision is the reason they are fighting to save their school in the first place.
"Labour councillors in West Lancashire, and the local MP, can't have it both ways - they need to come out and publicly condemn their party for the closure proposals, or resign as Labour Party members."
Paul Greenall, prospective Conservative MP for West Lancashire, said: "Labour's cynical manoeuvring is the sort of thing which puts people off politics. How can they be claiming to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with campaigners and yet be members of a local party which has put Glenburn under threat?"
